MCP client
Claude Desktop
Add TranscriptDock as an MCP server in Claude Desktop's configuration file.
1. Open the config file#
Open Claude Desktop, go to Settings, then Developer, then Edit Config. Or open the file directly:
| OS | Path |
|---|---|
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json |
| Windows | %APPDATA%\\Claude\\claude_desktop_config.json |
2. Add the server#
Add a transcriptdock entry under mcpServers, with your API key:
claude_desktop_config.json
{"mcpServers": {"transcriptdock": {"command": "npx","args": ["-y", "@transcriptdock/mcp"],"env": {"TRANSCRIPTDOCK_API_KEY": "td_live_YOUR_KEY","TRANSCRIPTDOCK_BASE_URL": "https://transcriptdock.com"}}}}
3. Restart Claude Desktop#
Quit and reopen the app so it picks up the new server.
4. Verify#
Start a new chat and ask: “Transcribe this YouTube link” with a URL attached. Claude calls the transcribe tool and returns the job. If it asks for permission to use the tool, allow it.
Example prompts#
- “Transcribe this YouTube link and give me the SRT.”
- “Check on job 11111111-1111-4111-8111-111111111111.”
- “Transcribe this TikTok and wait until it is done.”
Troubleshooting#
- Tool not showing up: confirm the JSON is valid (no trailing commas) and restart the app.
- “Key not found”: check
TRANSCRIPTDOCK_API_KEYis inside theenvblock, not the shell. - Command not found: install Node.js so
npxis on your PATH.
